Carolyn Wilder | I Saw it on T.V. (Yum Yum) - part I

Every kind of chips. There’s Red Hots and original recipe. Crab chips? Huh. I suppose that’s Old Bay seasoning. They’re family size, for the whole family. Cheese balls are dusted with what’s supposed to be cheese.

It’s a novelty - art about chips. Novelties are in vogue in one minute and out the next. Wilder is ahead of her time - artwork about chips will be the next thing. This will be in a museum eventually.

Never thought about the idea of potato chips as art. They are a snack, they go with hamburgers and hot dogs. Sometimes ranch dip. You can eat them most any time. Except for Cheese Curls. I mean, chips are a food you can eat at a party or on a desert island.

Novelty is not what I usually associate with fine art. But that’s what Wilder is challenging here. If everything can be art, so can chips. It’s a gag - a pun. An art laugh. So after enjoying some fine art, you can enjoy some chips.

Ask yourself which is better, art or Utz? Tough call.
