Lindsay Kondis | Abigail the Pigeon
Lindsay Kondis, Abigail the Pigeon
The pigeon is on the ground looking for something to eat, bugs or something. Or, maybe leftover pizza.
The buildings are leaning different kinds of directions. It makes the picture more animated.
There aren’t so many pigeons in Pittsburgh so to speak. There are more pigeons in New York. Pigeons are more common in the cities than the suburbs. I associate them with the urban landscape.
The average person associates pigeons with negative things. People call them flying rats, but they are nicer than rats. And they’re nicer looking than rats. I prefer pigeons over rats, but don’t let Benjy find out or I’ll never hear the end of it. I don’t mean it personally. It’s a matter of preference.
I think during the wars, people used pigeons to get messages across the enemy lines. It was more efficient than morse code. People even race pigeons. Pigeons come back to their nest.
…which all means they are smart birds.
The average person associates pigeons with negative things, but this picture makes me think of pigeons as being good. Pigeons have their own place in ecology.
