Evil had taken over Pittsburgh and there was only one person that could save it! Little does the trusty neighborhood spidrman know, the problem was larger than he could handle alone! Spidrmanthemusical - Issue 4: How’d We Even Get Here? was an art performance that celebrated Pittsburgh, friendship, and the unrelenting need to create.
Pittsburgh-based artists, Sam Berner and Chris Donadio began creating spidrmanthemusical performances in 2011. The two were inspired to create a free, low-budget performance in juxtaposition to the expensive ticket, high-budget Broadway production with a similar name. Their performances utilize low-fi props and technology paired with humorous dialog that draws from comics, pop culture, and everyday life.
For Issue 4, Sam and Chris collaborated with VaultArt Studio resident artists. The one-night event featured a presentation of Pittsburgh and superhero themed artwork by Kim Bond, Jack Briggs, Wendy Davis, Kahyll Holyfield, Darian Johnson, Heikeem Johnson, Maggie Kambic, Lee Kennedy, Cicely Murray, Steph Neary, Frank Principe, Charlie Scott, Edith Sullivan, Sean Regis Traynor, Charlie Wallace, Charmette Young and featured a 25 minute action packed live performance.
